EEC to apply trigger protective measure against imports of some Vietnam’s goods into EEU
MINSK, Jul 8 - PrimePress. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) decided on July 7, 2021 to apply a trigger protective measure against imports from Vietnam at a zero rate of customs duties of the Common Customs Tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union (CCT EEU) under the free trade agreement. The protective measure will be valid for six months, the EEC press office reports.

The protective measure implies the return of the standard duty rate of the CCT EEU due to the excess of the import volumes in 2020 compared to the set level for a number of goods. Import duties at the rate of 1.5-2.2 euro per kg will be paid for the products in question, depending on the type of goods.

“Vietnamese suppliers are given good opportunities to supply products to the market of the Eurasian Economic Union, but volume restrictions are applied to a number of sensitive types of commodities,” says EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev.

The decision will come into force 30 calendar days after the official publication.

As reported, the EEU countries and Vietnam agreed on the introduction of a free trade zone regime in late 2016. A year after the agreement came into force, the EEU-Vietnam trade turnover increased by 36.7%. In 2020, trade increased by 11.7% from 2019 to $6.25 billion. End
