National Bank’s net foreign assets down 1.8% in Jan-Jun 2021 to $7.152bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $7.152 billion as of July 1, 2021, down 1.8% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report.<br> <br> The National Bank’s net foreign assets increased following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 2.9% in Jan-Jun 2021 to $7.865 billion and a 12.9% decrease in foreign liabilities to $713.1 million as of July 1, 2021.<br> <br> Monetary gold accounted for $3.272bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of July 1, 2021 (down 5.8% year to date), deposits – $3.105bn (up 8.4%), credits – $572.2bn (down 40.6%), securities (except shares) – $747.4m (down 5.1%), foreign exchange – $168.8m (up 176%), other assets – $0, on a par with the level of Jan 1, 2021.<br> <br> Credits accounted for $163.7m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of July 1, 2021 (down 35% year to date), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $21.1m (down 41.4%), other liabilities – $527.2m (down 0.8%).<br> <br> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
