Foreign cos pay Br102m in Google tax over past 3 years – Tax Ministry

Foreign companies paid Br102 million ($39.4 million at the rate of National Bank of Belarus) to the Belarusian budget over the three years since the Google tax was imposed, First Deputy Tax Minister of Belarus Igor Klepcha told reporters on July 9, 2021.<br> <br> As previously reported, special rules for taxation of services provided in electronic form by foreign producers came into force in Belarus on January 1, 2018. Subject to VAT are services provided to Belarusian individuals by foreign companies, including sales of games or applications on Play Store or Play Market; music and films; e-books; cloud storage accounts; advertising; search services; online auctions; paid subscriptions to online publications, etc. Foreign companies that provide electronic services to customers in Belarus without intermediaries, or foreign intermediaries in settling accounts, or Belarusian intermediaries directly involved in settling accounts with Belarusian natural persons are subject to the so-called “Google tax.”<br> <br> “As of today, 103 foreign organizations have been registered with the tax authorities, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Booking.com, etc. Over the past three years, we have received 102 million Belarusian rubles from these organizations,” said Klepcha.<br> <br> He said tax reporting and subsequent interaction with foreign companies is only carried out electronically through the eTax service on the website of the Tax Ministry.
