WB appoints Arup Banerji country director for Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine Jul 1, 2020
<p> MINSK, Jun 30 - PrimePress. The World Bank has appointed Arup Banerji country director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. He will lead the bank’s engagement with governments, stakeholders, and partners, and work with the World Bank’s sister institutions–International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)–in order to strengthen World Bank Group delivery in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine fr om July 1, 2020, the WB press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> Before the appointment, Banerji had been a regional director of the World Bank for the countries of the European Union and senior director of the World Bank and the head of the department for global practice for the matters of labor, social protection and pension systems. </p> <p> </p> <p> Before joining the World Bank, Banerji taught at the Center for Development Economics at Williams College, Massachusetts, USA, wh ere he was the Director of Graduate Studies, and at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He holds a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Delhi, India. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus became member of the World Bank in 1992. Belarus-WB cooperation is currently based on the WB Group Partnership Strategy for 2018-2022 adopted in 2018. According to the Ministry of Economy of Belarus, the WB invested over $1.7 billion in the economy of Belarus in 1992-2019. The current investment portfolio of the World Bank in Belarus includes nine projects totaling $942.71 million. End </p>
