Unified Customs Tariff should be applied to the fullest extent possible - expert

It is necessary to achieve the fullest application of the Common Customs Tariff in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia), EDB Chief Economist Evgeny Vinokurov said during the First Eurasian Congress on December 4. </p> <p> </p> <p> “In my opinion, progress in solving a number of tasks during the 2020s would bring the greatest benefit to businesses and citizens of the EEU countries. Among them is the completion of common markets and ensuring the fullest possible application of the Single Customs Tariff. The ultimate goal could be the widest possible common market coverage of all trade in goods and services. Common markets of the EEU allow investor companies to enjoy a number of advantages in doing business, as well as to build more actively cross-border value chains,” said Vinokurov. </p> <p> </p> <p> At the same time, the expert sees progress in the elimination or unification of non-tariff barriers as a necessary and important process for modernization and cooperation of the EEU economies. </p> <p> </p> <p> He also believes it is necessary to develop major integration projects of a systemic nature, primarily in the transport and logistics sector, the electricity sector (including renewable energy sources) and information and communication technologies. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, since the beginning of 2020 nine trade barriers have been removed in the EEU, but during this time five new trade barriers have appeared. According to the Ministry of Economy of Belarus, as of August 2020 there were 67 barriers in the EEU, 17 of which have the barrier status. End </p>
