Ukraine slaps special customs duty on Belarusian-made machinery at 35% of customs value
<p> MINSK, Apr 22 - PrimePress. Ukraine will introduce a special duty for imported Belarusian machinery in the amount of 35% of its customs value starting May 2, 2021, according to a message posted in Uriadovyi Kur'yer newspaper (Governmental Courier) on Apr 22. </p> <p> </p> <p> The special duty shall be imposed on new motor vehicles intended for transportation of ten persons or more; motor vehicles for transportation of goods with internal combustion piston engine with compression ignition (diesel or semi-diesel) with gross vehicle weight exceeding 5 tonnes, but not exceeding 20 tonnes and gross vehicle weight exceeding 20 tonnes (except for motor chassis with a cabin); new special-purpose motor vehicles - emergency repair lorries, mobile cranes, road sweepers, water washers, workshop trucks, hydraulic lifts. </p> <p> </p> <p> The special duty has been introduced in retaliation for discrimination and unfriendly actions on the part of the Republic of Belarus regarding legitimate rights and interests of the Ukrainian foreign trade entities - automobile manufacturers. </p> <p> </p> <p> In particular, Ukraine is unhappy about the Belarusian government’s creating artificial barriers to the import of wheeled vehicles from Ukraine in the form of recycling fees and unequal terms for participation in public purchases, which resulted in difficulties for access of Ukrainian products to the Belarusian market. </p> <p> </p> <p> The special duty will be effective until it is established that Belarus has ceased its discriminatory and unfriendly actions against Ukraine.
