Ukraine refuses to import Belarusian electricity in 2021

The forecast balance of electricity in Ukraine for 2021 does not provide for import from Belarus and export from Ukraine to Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> Ukraine’s Acting Energy Minister Olga Buslavets made a statement to this effect at a meeting with the management of energy generating companies, "Ukrenergo" and other representatives of the industry on Nov 4. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, a new electric energy market began functioning in Ukraine on July 1, 2019. Ukraine’s Naftogaz gas supply company, which is part of the Naftogaz Group, began to procure electricity in Belarus to sell it on the domestic market. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus increased the export of electric energy to Ukraine 716 times year on year in 2019 to 852.8 million kWh, according to official statistical reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> In value terms, Belarus’ proceeds from the electricity export to Ukraine grew by 674 times year on year in 2019 to $45.609 million. </p> <p> </p> <p> The average price of Belarus’ electric energy exported to Ukraine reduced by 6.2% year on year in 2019 to $53.480 per million kWh. </p> <p> </p> <p> In total, Belarus exported 2.370 billion kWh of electric energy in 2019 (up 127% year on year) worth $123.563 million (up 126%). The average price decreased 0.8% year on year to $52.129 per 1 million kWh. In 2019, Belarus also supplied electric energy to Lithuania and Latvia. End </p>
