Six out of 7 contenders submit required number of signatures for nomination as candidates for presidency of Belarus – CEC

Six out of seven contenders have collected the required number of signatures for their nomination as candidates for the presidency of Belarus, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus reported following the verification of the authenticity of the signatures. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the CEC, Viktor Babariko submitted 165,744 authentic signatures, Andrei Dmitriev – 106,841, Anna Kanopatskaya – 146,588, Alexander Lukashenko – 1,939,572, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 104,757, Valery Tsepkalo – 75,249, and Sergei Cherechen – 143,109. </p> <p> </p> <p> As candidates are to collect at least 100,000 signatures for nomination, this means that Valery Tsepkalo is out of the race. </p> <p> </p> <p> As reported, signatures had been collected from May 21 to June 19and submitted to the Central Election Commission from June 20 to July 4 for registration of the candidates. The registration will take place from July 5 to July 14. The presidential election is scheduled for August 9, 2020. Early voting will begin on August 4. The Central Election Commission will publish the election results on or before August 19, 2020. The second round, if necessary, will be held on August 23. End </p>
