Share of non-resource-based commodities in EEU foreign and mutual trade up 3.4pp to 31.8%

Non-resource commodities accounted for 31.8% of exports to third countries by member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia), up 3.4 percentage points, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said in a trade report based on the Jan-Jul 2021 data from the Department of Statistics. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the EEC press service, the supply of such goods by the EEU to third countries increased by 50.5% year on year to $87.7bn. </p> <p> </p> <p> The share of non-resource non-energy commodities in the total volume of the EEU mutual trade increased to 76.6% or by 2.8 p.p. year on year. Shipments increased by 29.6% to $26.8bn. </p> <p> </p> <p> “In both cases, positive dynamics can be observed in trade of all the states of the union,” the report said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Overall, in trade, external and mutual trade increased by 30.4 per cent compared to the lockdown time of 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In foreign trade, food exports increased by 19.3% to $17.5 billion and machinery products by 28.7% to $8 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> EEU exports to third countries increased by 34.4% in January-July 2021 to $275.6bn. Exports to the European Union (EU) accounted for 41.8% and to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries for 29.8%. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Imports from third countries grew at a lower rate - up 24.6% to $174.8 billion. Here we can see an increase in shipments of civil aircraft, which is associated with the revival of passenger traffic, as well as an increase in imports of passenger cars and components amid the realization of pent-up demand and solving logistics problems,” the EEC said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Apart from mineral products, metallurgy and chemical industry, supplies of machinery, equipment and ground transport increased by 16.9% to $6.9 billion, foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials by 11.6% to $6.2 billion, as well as textile and footwear by 22.8% to $1.4 billion. In particular, shipments of passenger cars increased by 66.4% to $0.9 billion. </p> <p> </p> <p> Mutual trade of EEU states in January-July 2021 amounted to $38.6bn, its share in total trade volumes did not change during the year and remained at the level of 7.9%.
