Russia to help Belarus bypass oil sanctions with tried-and-tested schemes - expert

MINSK, Jun 25 - PrimePress. Russia will help Belarus bypass sanctions in the energy sector and, above all, in the oil sector, using previously tested schemes for deliveries to Crimea and the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, said Igor Yushkov, an expert of the Financial University under the Russian government and a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund.

Yushkov reminded that on 3 June 2021 the U.S. resumed sanctions against the Belarusian petrochemical enterprises, including JSC Naftan (Novopolotsk, Vitsebsk Oblast). Thus, the Americans banned anyone from supplying oil to Naftan.

“But here Russia is giving its helping hand to Belarus - a scheme that has been tried on Crimea to supply oil and in the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Russia has been living under sanctions for a long time,” Yushkov said in the Energizer video blog on Eurasia.Expert.

According to Yushkov, the point of this scheme is that large oil companies are stepping aside because they operate in the international market and for them sanctions are quite a significant blow.
