Russia sends debut compensation for dirty oil to Belarus’ Mozyr refinery

Russian oil companies started paying compensation to Belarus’s Mozyr refinery for deliveries of contaminated oil via the Druzhba pipeline in the spring of 2019, the refinery said in a statement on Friday. </p> <p> </p> <p> On Thursday, the Mozyr facility received RUB1.045 billion (around $14m) from Russian oil company Lukoil. </p> <p> </p> <p> Russian companies will totally pay U.S. $60 million in compensation to the Mozyr facility, the statement also read. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in late April 2019, the chloride-contaminated oil was pumped through the Druzhba pipeline system. As a result, transportation of oil from Russia to Europe via Belarus was suspended and then resumed on July 1. According to the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, Belarus received over 1.2 million tonnes of dirty oil, which damaged equipment at the Mozyr Oil Refinery OJSC (Gomel Oblast). </p> <p> </p> <p> Minsk and Moscow signed a protocol, which sets the amount of compensation at $15 per barrel. According to the protocol, Mozyr received 563,000 tonnes of dirty oil, which means that Belarus can receive over $61 million in compensation. End </p> <p> </p>
