Russia’s govt approves draft agreement on $1bn loan to Belarus
<p> MINSK, Dec 21 - PrimePress. The Russian government has approved the draft agreement on a $1 billion loan for Belarus in 2020-2021, according to the official Internet portal of legal information of the Russian Federation. </p> <p> </p> <p> Russia will provide the loan in 2020-2021 in two tranches in an amount equivalent to $1 billion at the rate of the Central Bank of Russia on the date of transfer of each tranche under this agreement for the repayment and servicing of the public debt of Belarus to Russia and to the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), as well as for budgetary support for the Belarus, reads the agreement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The absence of Belarusian companies’ debts for natural gas supplied by Gazprom is one of the conditions for granting the loan. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Russian Finance Ministry is instructed to hold talks with Belarus and sign the agreement in consultation with the Russian Foreign Ministry and other stakeholders. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the presidents of Russia and Belarus agreed on a $1.5 million loan for Belarus during their meeting on September 14, 2020 in Sochi. The Russian government will provide $1 billion equivalent in Russian rubles as a state loan, and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development will transfer $500 million. The loan from the EFSD has already been given to Belarus and accounted for in Belarus’ national budget in October 2020. End </p>
