Russia’s cos may consider acquiring Belarus’ assets from cost-benefit standpoint – Peskov

Russian companies may acquire Belarusian based on the economic feasibility and price offer, Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on February 24, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> When asked whether this matter was touched upon during the Putin-Lukashenko talks on February 22, 2021 in Sochi, Peskov said investment cooperation topped the agenda. He stressed that economic feasibility was of essence. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko’s press office said that the two presidents had a phone talk on February 23 to discuss the functioning of the tax system and defence cooperation. Russia’s presidential press office reported that the presidents continued discussing the matters addressed at their meeting held on February 22, 2021 in Sochi. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the National Statistic Committee of Belarus (Belstat), Russia’s net direct investment (excluding loans) in the Belarusian economy rose by 16.6% in 2020 from 2019 to $307.273 million. Russia has been and stays the biggest investor in Belarus. In 2020, Russia accounted for 97.7% EEU’s net FDI in Belarus and 93.5% of CIS’ FDI. In total, net FDI in Belarus increased by 6.6% in 2020 from 2019 to $1.415 billion. End </p>
