Russia is still the biggest investor in Belarus, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on February 22, 2021 in Sochi. </p> <p> </p> <p> “I am pleased to say that that our interaction, strategic partnership, alliance is confirmed, and Russia remains the largest trade and economic partner of Belarus, about 50% of the total turnover, and we are the biggest investor: over $4 billion invested by Russian partners in the Belarusian economy,” Putin said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Russia’s net foreign direct investment (excluding loans and credits) in the Belarusian economy increased in 2020 by 16.6% year on year to $307.273 million. Russia traditionally ranks first in terms of foreign investments in Belarus. In 2020, Russia’s investments accounted for 97.7% of Eurasian Economic Union’s net FDI and 93.5% of CIS’ investments.
