Russia ready for cooperation with Belarus in all aspects Minsk views relevant – Lukashenko
<p> MINSK, Oct 7 - PrimePress. Russia is ready to cooperate in all areas important for Belarus. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made a statement to this effect on 7 October at a meeting to discuss measures to counter sanctions, the president’s press service said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said: “I’ve just talked to the president of Russia (in a phone conversation in the morning on 7 October Lukashenko congratulated Vladimir Putin on his birthday). No problems. We can and we should and Russia is ready for working together in all the areas Belarus needs. It is up to us to decide”. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the main goals of sanctions are to get rid of direct competitors, to destroy key enterprises and to put them out of business, and to ultimately stifle the Belarusian economy. Lukashenko emphasized that a hybrid war is being waged against Belarus and sanctions are its economic component. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said: “We need not only to promptly and coherently respond to all challenges, but also to actively take preventive measures, to look for ways out of the current situation. We have an open economy; we sell 60% of what we make in foreign markets. The prime minister told me that the government is making no drama out of it, either. I like the determination to confront the sanctions. This is how we should work.” </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, “another round of attempts to restrain and intimidate us is turning against the business and the economy of the country that imposes the sanctions.” It is already taking its toll on the Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine, said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the European Union imposed sanctions against major sectors of the Belarusian economy since 25 June 2021, and on 9 August the US, the UK and Canada imposed sectoral sanctions. Earlier, the EU imposed three more parcels of sanctions, which it justified by the escalation of human rights violations in Belarus after the August 2020 presidential election. The overall sanctions list includes 166 individuals and 15 organizations and companies. A fifth package of sanctions against Belarus in connection with the migration crisis at the EU border is the pipeline. End </p> <p> </p>
