Private companies must join Trade Union Federation or be liquidated – Lukashenko

Private companies must form local trade unions that will be part of the official Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) or they will be liquidated, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on November 10, 2020 at the meeting with FTUB Chairman Mikhail Orda, the presidential press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We set the task that trade unions must be set up at all private enterprises by the end of this year. This must be done. Otherwise, the private companies will be liquidated. No more games. We see how some of them behave, seeking to ruin the state, our statehood. We will look into this from all angles. The unions must be in place. No retreat whatsoever,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> He promised support for trade unions at all levels. “Someone will pull out, a tiny number of those you have. If someone wants to withdraw or leave the country, let them. It unites 15 craft unions, six oblast and Minsk city associations of trade unions, and 137 district and city associations of trade unions, over 4 million people in total (96.5% of the economically active population).
