Peskov: Minsk to get $500m tranche of Moscow loan by July

Belarus will receive the second, U.S. $500 million tranche of Russia’s $1.5 billion state loan in the near future, by the end of June, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, told reporters on May 29 following the Putin-Lukashenko meeting in Sochi. </p> <p> </p> <p> The issue was discussed during the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Belarus-Russia intergovernmental agreement on granting two tranches $500 million each of the Russian state loan to Minsk was signed on December 21, 2020 in Moscow. The Belarusian Finance received the first $500m tranche of the loan on December 30. Prior to that, in October 2020, Belarus also received a $500m loan from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD). End </p> <p> </p> <p> “This is the second tranche. It was announced before all these stories with (Ryanair) plane,” Peskov said, adding that there were no obstacles for the transfer of the tranche. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko did not raise the issue of additional economic assistance to Belarus at the talks with Putin, Peskov also said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The presidents discussed improving economic cooperation in the customs and tax spheres, while the issue of the transition to a single currency was not touched upon during the talks, Peskov added. </p> <p> </p> <p> Putin and Lukashenko also did not raise the issue of a possibility of Belavia’s flights to Crimea during the meeting, Peskov said, adding that it is Belavia that should be asked.
