National Bank’s net foreign assets up 0.6% in Jan-Jul 2021 to $7.322bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $7.322 billion as of Aug 1, 2021, up 0.6% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets increased following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 1.9% in Jan-Jul 2021 to $7.949 billion and a 23.5% decrease in foreign liabilities to $626.1 million as of Aug 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.385bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of Aug 1, 2021 (down 2.5% year to date), deposits – $2.664bn (down 7%), credits – $985,700 (up 2.4%), securities (except shares) – $744.1m (down 5.6%), foreign exchange – $169.5m (up 17.7 times), other assets – $40,000, to compare with $0 as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $84.3m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of Aug 1, 2021 (down 66.5% year to date), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $14.9m (down 58.6%), other liabilities – $526.9m (down 0.8%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
