National Bank’s net foreign assets down 9.4% in Jan-Feb 2021 to $6.597bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $6.597 billion as of March 1, 2021, down 9.4% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets reduced following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 9.6% in Jan-Feb 2021 to $7.324 billion and an 11.2% decrease in foreign liabilities to $726.9 million as of Mar 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.239bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of Mar 1, 2021 (down 6.8% since early 2021), deposits – $2.144bn (down 25.2%), credits – $1.174bn (up 21.9%), securities (except shares) – $758.2m (down 3.8%), foreign exchange – $9.59m (down 0.7%), other assets – $0.04m against $0 as of Jan 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $168m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of Mar 1, 2021 (down 33.3% since early 2021), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $27m (down 25%), other liabilities – $531.9m (up 0.1%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
