National Bank’s net foreign assets down 5.1% in Jan-Apr 2021 to $6.912bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $6.912 billion as of May 1, 2021, down 5.1% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets reduced following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 5.8% in Jan-Apr 2021 to $7.626 billion and a 12.8% decrease in foreign liabilities to $714.15 million as of May 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.282bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of May 1, 2021 (down 5.5% year to date), deposits – $2.514bn (down 12.3%), credits – $1.067bn (up 10.8%), securities (except shares) – $753.21m (down 4.4%), foreign exchange – $9.57m (down 0.3%), other assets – $1.6m against $0 as of Jan 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $163.027m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of May 1, 2021 (down 35.2% year to date), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $21.49m (down 40.3%), other liabilities – $529.36m (down 0.4%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
