Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $7.239 billion as of Sep 1, 2021, down 0.57% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets decreased following an increase in gross foreign assets by 10.6% in Jan-Aug 2021 to $8.792 billion and a 89.64% increase in foreign liabilities to $1.553 billion as of Sep 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $4.35bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of Sep 1, 2021 (up 25.3% year to date), deposits – $3.426bn (up 19.6%), credits – $62,100 (down 90%), securities (except shares) – $785.5m (down 0.3%), foreign exchange – $168.6m (up 17.6 times), other assets –$0, unchanged year to date. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $84.18m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of Sep 1, 2021 (down 66.6% year to date), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $16.1m (down 55.3%), other liabilities – $1.453bn (down 2.7 times). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
