Naftan processes about 300,000 tonnes of crude in first two weeks of May

One of Belarus’ two major oil refineries - Naftan (based in Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) - has processed about 300,000 tons of oil in the first two weeks of May 2021, says a message posted in the corporate journal Naftan Bulletin (Vestnik Naftana). </p> <p> </p> <p> The report points out the fact that “the supply of raw materials is carried out in accordance with the approved schedule,” while the plant’s workload and production is going in a normal mode in accordance with the business plan. </p> <p> </p> <p> Naftan processes an average of 600,000-700,000 tonnes a month. Thus, Naftan’s corporate journal reports that the volume of oil refining has not decreased compared to the usual level. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will resume on 3 June 2021 the effect of economic sanctions on nine Belarusian companies - Belneftekhim Concern and its U.S. representative office, as well as Belneftekhim-controlled Belshina, Grodno Azot, Grodno Khimvolokno, Lakokraska, Naftan, Polotsk-Steklovolokno, and Belarusian Oil Trading House. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transneft, the Russian operator of oil trunk pipelines, announced on May 4 that it plans to deliver 608,000 tonnes of oil in May 2021 to Belarusian oil refineries (Naftan, Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast, and Mozyr Oil Refinery, Gomel Oblast), which is 2.2 times less than in April 2021. Reuters reported Apr 27 citing relevant sources that Russian oil companies Rosneft and Surgutneftegaz may halt supplies to the Naftan refinery (Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) for fear of falling under secondary U.S. sanctions.
