Naftan operating steadily, at full capacity amid Western sanctions
<p> MINSK, Sep 30 - PrimePress. OAO Naftan (Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) is operating at full capacity and manufacturing products as planned amid Western sanctions. This was stated by deputy director general Gleb Makarevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> “At the moment we are working at full load, producing all the goods in the planned mode and placing them on the traditional and new markets,” said Makarevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, “the company has worked steadily, there is a small but positive profitability, the volume of processing is also stable.” </p> <p> </p> <p> On 3 June 2021, the US Department of the Treasury renewed sanctions against nine Belarusian companies - Belneftekhim and its US subsidiary, Belshina, Grodno Azot, Grodno Khimvolokno, Lakokraska, Polotsk Fiberglass, Belarusian Oil Trading House and Naftan. </p> <p> </p> <p> Russian companies increased oil deliveries to Belarus by 10.1% up to 7.9 million tons in January-August 2021. At the same time, in Aug 2021, Russia’s oil exports to Belarus fell by 21.1% year on year to 834,000 tons. Previously, in June 2021, Russia’s oil exports to Belarus fell by 62.7% year on year to 374,700 tons. Such dynamics of supplies in June could be attributed to the resumption of sanctions imposed by the U.S. against Naftan (Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) from June 3, 2021. In this connection, sources in major Russian companies said that they refused to work with Naftan. </p> <p> </p> <p> Launched in 1963, Naftan is Belarus’ largest refinery and one of the largest in Europe. In 2008, Naftan incorporated another Belarusian refinery Polimir. 99.83% of the company belongs to the state. Naftan is capable of producing about 400,000 tonnes of diesel fuel per year. Naftan produces euro-4 and euro-5 diesel fuel, petrol and lubricants, which are exported to the EU, the Middle East and the United States. End </p>
