MTZ plans to organize assembly production of tractors in Russia with Cummins-Kama engines
<p> MINSK, Mar 18 – PrimePress. Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) is planning to organize in Russia’s Yelabuga the assembly of tractors with engines produced by the joint venture Cummins-Kama (Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia). </p> <p> </p> <p> MTZ Director General Vitaly Vovk made a statement to this effect during the meeting of the Belarusian delegation headed by Industry Minister Peter Parkhomchik with the management of KamAZ (Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia), the MTZ press service reported. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We plan to assemble tractors in Yelabuga with engines manufactured by the joint venture Cummins-Kama. In the next three or four years we are getting ready to reach a production volume of 5 thousand units and more. We would also like to consider options of cooperation with your JV to produce CVT gearboxes for the same project,” said Vovk. </p> <p> </p> <p> He also expressed interest in cooperation with the new foundry that KamAZ is building in Kazakhstan. “We are also building a tractor plant in Kazakhstan - we will produce the front axle there. We would like to receive castings from you. We will transfer the necessary materials, dimensions and volumes in the near future. We hope to reach a compromise,” said Vovk. </p> <p> </p> <p> KamAZ (Kama Automobile Plant) is a Soviet and later Russian company, producer of diesel trucks and diesel engines, in operation since 1976. It also produces buses (under Nefaz brand), tractors, harvesters, electric generators, mini heat power plants and components. The main production facilities are located in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTZ Production Association is one the world’s largest tractor producers. The company produces a large variety of tractors ranging in power from 9hp to 365hp. MTZ currently runs 20 tractor assembly projects in 12 states. MTZ products are exported to some 85 countries. </p> <p> </p> <p> In August 2014 OAO Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ) was turned into MTZ Group by gaining control over state-owned stakes in 9 OAOs: 433,439 shares of OAO Bobruisk Tractor Parts Plant (Mogilev Region), 35,500 shares of OAO Vitebsk Tractor Parts Plant, 1.576 million shares of OAO Lepel Mechanical Repairs Plant (Vitebsk Region), 43,809 shares in OAO Lepel Electromechanical Plant (Vitebsk Region), 65,016 shares in OAO Minsk Special Instruments Plant, 268,151 shares in OAO Minsk Gears Plant, 2.742 million shares of OAO Mozyr Machine-Building Plant (Gomel Region), 353,466 shares of OAO Narovlya Hydraulics Plant (Gomel Region) and 238,487 shares of OAO Khoiniki Hydraulics Plant (Gomel Region).
