Moody’s likely to downgrade ratings of BPS-Sberbank, Belarusbank, Belagroprombank, Belinvestbank

Moody’s Investors Service revises the long-term deposit ratings of Belarusian BPS-Sberbank OJSC (B2 in the national currency, Caa1 in foreign exchange), ASB Belarusbank JSC, Belagroprombank JSC and Belinvestbank JSC (all B3). Their ratings are likely to be downgraded due to the banking sector’s vulnerability to political unrest effects in Belarus, says the agency. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The outlook for long-term deposit and issuer ratings has been changed from Stable to Under Revision,” the agency said in a comment on BPS-Sberbank. </p> <p> </p> <p> Moody’s says that this was done against the backdrop of social risks, particularly those for the liquidity of the banking sector in Belarus associated with political instability. </p> <p> </p> <p> The revision of BPS-Sberbank’s rating and its possible downgrade reflects the likelihood that political instability will result in risks to the liquidity and quality of assets of the banking system of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> BPS-Sberbank OJSC is part of Sberbank of Russia Group, being one of the leading banks in Belarus. The main share (91.34%) in its authorized capital is held by the Republic of Belarus represented by the State Property Committee. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian Bank for Development and Reconstruction Belinvestbank OJSC was established on September 3, 2001 as a result of reorganization through the merger of Belbiznesbank OJSC and Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus OJSC. The state holds the 99.08% share in the authorized capital of the bank. The bank was assigned to the 1st group of systemic importance.
