Minsk interested in speedy start of talks on new framework agreement with EU - Belarus Foreign Ministry

Belarus is interested in an early start of negotiations on a new framework agreement with the European Union (EU), Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makey said at a meeting of foreign ministers of the EU and the Eastern Partnership states on June 11. </p> <p> </p> <p> As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Makey emphasized the importance of joint actions to overcome the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and welcomed the EU intention to assist Belarus in this area. </p> <p> </p> <p> In the context of the vision of further development of the Eastern Partnership, Makey emphasized the importance of promoting foreign investment, facilitating access of partner countries to the EU market, development of energy and transport communications, introduction of green and information technologies. He urged to support Belarus' proposal to establish a regional Eastern Partnership IT school in Minsk. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, agreements on visa facilitation and readmission between the Foreign Ministry of Belarus and the EU were signed in Brussels on January 8, 2020. The visa agreement provides for simplifying visa procedures and reducing the cost of Schengen visas for Belarusians down to €35. </p> <p> </p> <p> With the entry into force of the readmission agreement, Belarus and the European Union will have to re-admit their own nationals, third-country nationals and stateless persons who do not meet or no longer meet the legal criteria in each other’s territories.
