MAZ to produce first self-driving electric bus in 2022

Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) will produce its first self-driving electric bus in 2022, said Andrey Savchits, Chief Designer at MAZ, according to the press service of the Ministry of Industry of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Already well-known models of buses will be actively used in the production of pilotless buses, and the first self-driving electric bus will appear on the roads of Belarus next year. At the first stage the new vehicles will operate under the supervision of an operator. An unmanned electric bus will have a degree of automation, probably no more than 4 at the first stage, because it is necessary to teach the vehicle to move. In the beginning, there should be a pilot inside who will teach the bus to drive itself,” Savchits said. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to him, self-driving automobiles will not only carry passengers in towns, but also perform long-distance trips. </p> <p> </p> <p> Established in 1947, MAZ, the country’s largest OAO, is fully owned by the Belarusian government.
