MART reports 10.5% yoy increase in staple goods prices in Oct 2021

October 2021 saw a 10.5% year-on-year increase in prices of socially important goods in Belarus, according to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade’s (MART) overview of the price situation on the consumer market in October 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, inflation in Belarus in October 2021 stood at 0.9%, January-October - 8.5%. In October 2021, consumer prices rose by 10.5% year on year; January-September 2021 - by 9.3%. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The year-on-year increase in the consumer price index and the consumer price index for socially important goods was mainly influenced by the accelerating increase in prices for fruit and vegetables, as well as meat and meat products, tariffs for housing and utilities services,” MART explained. </p> <p> </p> <p> MART believes that the accelerated increase in food prices was mainly due to continued negative trends in foreign markets. According to MART estimates, the annual increase in global food prices in October 2021 stood at 29.3% (30.7% a month earlier), in the Russian Federation food prices increased by 12.1% year on year, vegetable prices – up 48.6%, overall inflation accelerated to 8.1% - the highest value since June 2016.
