MART extends state regulation of prices for socially important goods till 31 Dec 2021

The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) of Belarus has extended state regulation of prices for socially important goods in the Republic of Belarus for the period from 24 September till 31 December 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus is currently exercising state regulation of prices with regard to 18 groups of socially important goods (introduced on 1 Jan 2021 for 17 product groups, then supplemented) and 11 groups of socially important goods (from 9 June 2021), including meat, milk, cheese, butter, wheat flour, rye bread, white polished rice, buckwheat groats, white sugar, baby food, fresh vegetables and apples, canned meat, margarine, barley groats, table salt and black tea. </p> <p> </p> <p> Previously, the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) of Belarus issued resolution #40 of 1 June 2021 extending government regulation of prices for socially important products, justifying it by accelerated annual growth of consumer prices in Belarus amid continued growth of free market prices of foodstuffs. In particular, the resolution introduced price regulation for a number of foodstuffs, as well as provides for a change in approaches to price regulation in terms of setting the maximum size of the importer’s markup, the wholesale markup, the trade markup (with wholesale markup taken into account), at not more than 25% for a number of products: cheese, wheat flour, dry pasta, canned fish, rice, semolina, millet, oat flakes, potatoes and fresh vegetables (beets, carrots, white cabbage, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes), apples. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus introduced temporary regulation of prices for socially important goods in April 2020 and then repeatedly extended it for up to 90 days upon approval of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
