Lukashenko stays in office for sixth term, polling 80.08% – Central Election Commission

The Central Election Commission of Belarus reported on August 10 that, according to preliminary data, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected for his 6th term in office (since 1994). He is said to poll 80.08% of votes; Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 10.09%; Anna Kanopatskaya – 1.68%; Andrei Dmitriev – 1.21%; Sergei Cherechen – 1.15%; 4.6% voted against all. </p> <p> </p> <p> On August 10, Tikhanovskaya filed a complaint with the Central Election Commission against the results of the vote count. </p> <p> </p> <p> The turnout in the 2020 presidential election reached 84.23%. It was 86.75% in 2015 and 90.65% in 2010. On the main voting day, August 9, people stood in long lines to many polling stations. They were let in in small numbers. Several polling stations did not close at 8 pm. The early voting turnout on August 4-8 was all-time high. The turnout was reported at 4.98% on the first day of early voting; 12.75% on the second day; 22.47% on the third day; 32.24% on the fourth day and 41.7% on the last day.
