Lukashenko sees external drivers behind mass protests in Belarus

MINSK, Nov 13 - PrimePress. The driving force behind the mass protests in Belarus is an external factor, Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko said during an interview with representatives of several media outlets on November 13.

“The motive is also clear. Over a quarter of a century Belarus has built an effective model of welfare state, which allows to defend national interests. Belarus has become a member of the club of space-faring states and atomic powers. It is creating a new economy on the basis of high technologies. One can see attempts to cover up all these achievements with mud and belittle them. In fact, there is every indication of the desire to eliminate a competitor by destroying our industrial potential. Those who destroyed their own production facilities in the post-Soviet period are at pains to do that,” said Lukashenko.

He noted that similar events are taking place in other post-Soviet countries: Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova. Lukashenko is sure that similar technologies will try to be applied in Russia and other CIS countries in the foreseeable future.

“Any colour revolution makes the state weaker and the people poorer. Nowhere have people become better off after these revolts. The main cure for this attack is also known to be the expansion and deepening of our ties and integration. First of all, in the spheres of economy, security and human communication,” said Lukashenko.

In his words, in the post-Soviet space many countries “have come to see the light and realized that in alternative integration projects we are given the role of donors of raw materials, cheap labour and the market for secondary goods.”

As previously reported, since the presidential elections on August 9, 2020, in which Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner for the sixth time with 80.1% of the vote, thousands-strong protest actions against the official results have been held in Belarus.
