Lukashenko promises to allot Br800m in budget funds by late 2020 for fighting COVID-19

More than 800 million Belarusian rubles ($311.7 million at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) will be allocated from the national budget by the end of the year to fight the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. This follows from the words of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on November 27 during his visit to the 6th Minsk City Clinical Hospital. </p> <p> </p> <p> “No one will take away the bonuses (for medical workers for working with COVID-19 patients – editor’s note),” said Lukashenko. The money is also allocated for the purchase of equipment and equipment of modern workplaces for doctors. </p> <p> </p> <p> He said that Belarus will cope with the situation on its own and promised to help doctors with volunteers: “It's just that we haven't organised them. There should be volunteers. Examine this issue, especially in Minsk. Previously, the Russian leadership offered Belarus a vaccine strain so that the country could organize its production. Russian businesses also wanted to take part in financing. "But I am in favour of a state enterprise doing this. Our enterprises can produce this vaccine. It is still unclear whether this disease will remain forever and we will have to be vaccinated against it just like we do against the flu. This is why we have to produce this vaccine. In Belarus they will find an opportunity to organize a production line at the Belmedpreparaty enterprise (Borisov, Minsk Oblast),” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said that serious changes are planned in the system of higher medical education: “The main attention will be paid to the practice of proving guaranteed employment for graduates: a medical institution sends in an entrant to a medical university to studies, helps in every possible way and pays him monthly study allowances and them employs him after graduation.” End </p>
