Lukashenko orders govt to restrain growth of consumer prices during winter, spring

Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko has instructed the government to monitor the efforts of local authorities aimed at restraining the growth of consumer prices in winter and spring. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko issued an order to this effect on November 12 at a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Ivan Krupko and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Subbotin. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko reminded that he asked trade unions to control pricing in the country. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said: “Naturally, they will control the main positions. First of all, they will control food prices. We agreed that the country should prepare stabilization stocks, so that foodstuffs are in sufficient supply till May-June… As for the next step, we need to take strict control of the work of governors and local authorities to facilitate food supply in winter and spring, so that there are no price fluctuations. As it turns out, you tell me in autumn that there is an excess of food in the storehouses, and then prices of potatoes, cabbage or buckwheat start jumping”. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko noted that there is serious support abroad for agricultural enterprises and farmers. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We also support agriculture as much as we can.
