Lukashenko instructs KGB to secure stable socio-political environment in Belarus
<p> MINSK, Oct 18 - PrimePress. In modern conditions KGB workers need to maintain stable social and political environment, protect the country from external destructive pressure. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made a statement to this effect on 18 October at a conference to announce new appointments in the state security system, as reported by the president’s press-service. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The main objectives for you are to step up the fight against terrorism and extremism, to prevent anti-constitutional violations. The control over the situation at enterprises and government bodies is of paramount importance. Corresponding institutions have been established for that,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the situation in Belarus remains tense. “The collective West continues to interfere in the domestic affairs of the country. They seek to change the government, and, what is the most dangerous thing for us, to destroy the independence of our state. They use sanctions, finance protests, extremism, terrorism. Militants are selected and trained,” he explained. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Political emigrant centres in Warsaw and Vilnius, set up under the control of special services, are encouraging radicals to use intimidation tactics against public figures and government officials, representatives of the media and law enforcement agencies,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said that they are planning acts of sabotage at the facilities of the defence complex, economy and life support. “Foreign special services and their accomplices are studying the situation at enterprises looking to inspire strikes,” Lukashenko informed. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, the period of the constitutional referendum (preliminary due in Feb 2022 – editor’s note) is being considered as one of possible dates for another attempt to start a revolution. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko referred to the difficult situation on our state border as one of the key hybrid threats today. He demanded that the KGB should raise the efficiency of the foreign intelligence service, and “enhance its offensive nature”. End </p>
