Lukashenko decides to dissolve government – state media
<p> MINSK, Jun 3 - PrimePress. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has decided to dismiss the government, BelTA state newswire reports, citing state television channel Belarus-1. There was no information about that on the official website of the president as of late June 3. </p> <p> </p> <p> At the meeting on pressing socio-economic and political issues held on May 25, 2020, Lukashenko announced his intention to form a new government once he had been registered as a presidential candidate and before the presidential election. Registration of potential candidates is scheduled from July 5 to July 14, 2020, and the election will take place on August 9. Sergey Rumas has been serving as prime minister since August 2018. </p> <p> </p> <p> Proposals on a new composition of the government were considered at the presidential meeting on June 3. Attending the meeting were Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalia Kochanova, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko, Presidential Chief of Staff Igor Sergeyenko and Secretary of State of the Security Council Andrei Ravkov. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said that big changes in the Belarusian government were undesirable. “We began to form the future government a long time ago, about six months back. Changes in the government are also unadvisable given the pandemic-related crisis. Impacts of this crisis will be very serious. Therefore, it would be wrong to replace all members of the government now, and there is no need for that. A new generation of managers has grown up. They have proved themselves well, so why replace them? They can work,” he said. “As I have said, the global crisis is hitting Belarus as well. It’s good that we managed to cope with the pandemic, and that we did not shut the plants down. Otherwise, we would never put them back into operation,” said the president. End </p>
