Lukashenko counts on Russia’s help in expanding trade with Brazil
<p> MINSK, Sep 20 - PrimePress. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko counts on Russia’s assistance in expanding trade and economic cooperation with Brazil. Lukashenko said so when appointing Sergey Lukashevich Belarus’ Ambassador to Brazil on 20 September, the president’s press service reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko on Brazil: “A huge and powerful state. And we need to increase our presence there. At least little by little. I mean trade and economic relations. As to politics, you will see to what extent it will be possible.” </p> <p> </p> <p> Here the head of state also counts on Russia’s support. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must help through Russia and BRICS. Russians can help in many areas, especially in Brazil and especially now, when they are trying to assist us at many levels amidst the sanctions. It’s a difficult period for them, just like for us. But, as you can see, we are coping. I think we will handle it,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko also appointed Viktor Denisenko Belarus’ Ambassador to Tajikistan; Andrei Chernetsky Ambassador to Korea. </p> <p> </p> <p> “As for Korea, we really need to cooperate with them. Now it is necessary to team up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to outline the main areas of our cooperation. They meet us halfway. They are interested in this huge platform in the centre of Europe. Therefore, we need to maintain relations with them,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> He also sees a great potential for developing trade with Tajikistan. “The main thing for any ambassador is trade and economic cooperation. We have no political problems with Tajikistan, as well as with other countries where you will go,” said Lukashenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> When appointing new ambassadors to Tajikistan, Brazil and the Republic of Korea, Lukashenko wanted to know the details of how the candidates for ambassadorships were selected. Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makey assured that all these people are absolutely reliable and competent; the candidates for ambassadors were thoroughly discussed at several rounds of meetings at various levels. The new ambassadors have also showed themselves well at their previous jobs, said Makey. </p> <p> </p> <p> The newly-appointed ambassadors shares commentaries with the state-run mass media. </p> <p> </p> <p> Sergey Lukashevich said (as reported by BelTA) Belarus would expand its economic presence in Brazil: “Brazil is a locomotive of Latin America, a country that is one of the twenty biggest trading partners of Belarus,” the new head of the diplomatic mission said. “Our presence in Latin America is not so big. Nevertheless, this region is very important taking into consideration our new policy to intensify cooperation with distant countries. The president noted that it is necessary to expand our presence there, and we will think of ways to do it”. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus has long been exporting potash fertilizers to Brazil, Lukashevich said. In addition, some of beer brewed in Brazil is made of Belarusian malt. According to the diplomat, Gomselmash is successfully making inroads into this market, as it supplies corn threshing attachments to this country. Lukashevich emphasized that one of the areas of bilateral cooperation is the supply of Brazil's Embraer aircraft to the Belavia national air carrier. Belavia is already operating 12 such jets. </p> <p> </p> <p> Denisenko said that about 20 dealers of Belarusian manufacturers work in Tajikistan: assembly production of tractors, Bobruiskagromash and Gomselmash machinery. </p> <p> </p> <p> Chernetsky informed that potash fertilizers currently dominate Belarusian exports to the Republic of Korea. In addition, Belarus supplies semiconductor materials, food products, fibre optics, hydrocarbon products and other goods there.
