Lukashenko calls for resuming freedom of movement for EEU citizens

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has voiced the idea that member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) should adopt algorithms for resuming free movement of EEU citizens. Lukashenko made the proposal during the videoconference session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 21 May, the president’s press-service reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said: “I believe that our governments should agree on concrete joint algorithms to resume free movement of citizens in the territory of the EEU. Of course, we should continue taking measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and other diseases” the Belarusian president said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Amid the pandemic, a number of countries have taken quarantine measures and closed their borders to foreigners, regular air, road and rail traffic was suspended, including between Belarus and Russia. The parties have been gradually restoring passenger traffic, but a number of restrictions remain. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is an international economic integration association operating since January 1, 2015.
