MINSK, Oct 22 - PrimePress. Time is ripe in Belarus to offer additional incentives for electric transport promotion. Lukashenko made a statement to this effect at a meeting with senior members of the government on 22 October, the president’s press-service said.
A year ago a decision was made to stimulate the interest of the population in buying electric cars. The government believes that this tactic proved effective. “Now it is essential to introduce additional stimuli,” said Lukashenko.
In his words, one should not forget about the infrastructure. “Quick-recharge stations should be available all over the country. As of today, only 10% of petrol stations offer such services. In his opinion, this is one of the most promising industries. “The global practice shows that the decision to develop electric transport and introduce infrastructure for it was right. Virtually all countries are doing it today. It is also important for us as we do not have abundant oil resources and have recently launched the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” he said.
Minister of Economy of Belarus Alexander Chervyakov said after a meeting that the benefits for the import and purchase of electric cars, which are in force in Belarus for individuals, are planned to be extended to legal entities as well. The government has proposed several innovations, including the extension of the presidential ordinance "On incentives for electric cars".
As previously reported, the ordinance provides measures to stimulate the demand for electric cars and to create appropriate charging and service infrastructure in Belarus. For instance, owners of electric cars are exempted from paying a fee for a permit to participate in road traffic. Individuals do not have to pay VAT when importing electric cars for personal use in Belarus.
