Lukashenko bans imports of goods, services from countries, which imposed sanctions against Belarus

Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko has banned imports of certain categories of goods, as well as imports of works and services by entities and individuals of the states, which imposed sanctions on Belarusian companies and individuals. This decision was enshrined in presidential ordinance#128 “On the application of special measures” of March 30, 2021, Lukashenko’s press service said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The document was adopted to ensure security and protection of national interests of the Republic of Belarus. A specific list of goods, works (services) and, if necessary, foreign legal entities and individuals will be established by the Council of Ministers,” the statement said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The text of the ordinance has not been published yet. </p> <p> </p> <p> Massive protest actions against the official voting results began in Belarus after the presidential election of August 9, 2020, in which Lukashenko was declared the winner for the sixth time with 80.1% of the vote. For about four months following the election street rallies were held, with people protesting against election rigging and beatings of peaceful demonstrators by the police. The riot police and other law enforcers of Belarus kept violently dispersing peaceful demonstrations using riot control weapons, including stun grenades and rubber bullets. </p> <p> Hundreds were injured, and three killed in the first few days (August 9-11) alone. As many as 2,000 facts of beatings and torture were reported. After that, European countries, the United States, the United Kingdom and their allies imposed personal sanctions against a group of Belarusian officials, including Lukashenko, and a number of Belarusian companies, Beltechexport, Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, Dana Holdings managed by Serbian businessmen, and Synesis IT company among them.
