Lukashenko approves socio-economic development forecast parameters for 2021 – decree
<p> MINSK, Dec 23 - PrimePress. Presidential decree No.480 of December 22, 2020 approves the parameters of socio-economic development forecast for 2021, the presidential press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> GDP is expected to grow by 1.8% against 2020; capital investment by 21.3-21.7% year on year; prices of socially important goods by 4.9% (December on December). The latter indicator has been set as one of the most important ones for the first time. It includes changes in prices of basic commodities in everyday demand. Therefore, for social purposes, the target is set below headline inflation (5%), reads the report. </p> <p> </p> <p> In order to achieve the forecast targets, the government is instructed to coordinate the socio-economic development plan for 2021, ensuring economic recovery thus maintaining macroeconomic balance. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ GDP shrank in January-November 2020 by 0.9% year on year in comparative prices to Br133.9 billion ($53.071 billion at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in current prices. GDP grew by 1.2% yoy in 2019, the official growth forecast being 4%. The Belarusian government expects GDP to decline in 2020 by 0.8-0.9% year on year. GDP growth is official forecasted at 2.8%.
