Lukashenko approves Sheiman’s resignation application

MINSK, Jun 11 - PrimePress. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko accepted Viktor Sheiman’s resignation as the head of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate, reads a message posted by the president’s press-service following the June 11 working meeting of Lukashenko and Sheiman.

Lukashenko told Sheiman: “You’ve wanted to resign many times. I disagreed with it. But I understand that time has come when you've had enough in your life. Honestly speaking, I am grateful to you for everything that has been done. We will find time to meet so that I could once again thank you… I understand that and you have family and children, and many many more issues. So I agree with your new page in life, I will say this. But I would really ask you not to go too far away (and generally stay close to the state) and put in your shoulder where it will be necessary. For now, I would really ask you to take over Cuba, Venezuela and those 'loose ends' in Africa, as you have always done, before you hand over to the government. I would ask you to keep it to yourself until I have determined who will take care of it. Once again, don’t go too far. You see the situation around Belarus. God forbid you and me to take up an assault rifle and defend the country.”

Sheiman actively helped Lukashenko come to power in 1994. He served as state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus in 1994-2000, attorney general in 2000-2004, head of the presidential administration in 2004-2006, secondary state secretary of the Security Council in 2006-2008, assistant to the president for special assignments in 2009-2013 and, since 2013, as chief of the president’s property management directorate. Sheiman is on the EU and US sanctions list as he is suspected of being directly involved in the abduction of Belarusian opposition politicians in 1999-2000. End
