Lukashenko appoints new health minister

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has appointed First Deputy Health Minister Dmitry Pinevich acting health minister. </p> <p> </p> <p> Pinevich replaced Vladimir Karanik, who was appointed chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said he was quite satisfied with Health Ministry’s activities during the coronavirus pandemic. “They did pretty well, we must give them that. Especially in the second phase of this disease. Maybe, at first, we were not much active, didn’t quite understand some things. But they figured it out very quickly, sorted the people out, provided the clinics for coronavirus patients, had a reserve of beds and lung ventilators, taught how to heal and helped the regions. This is a very good record in your biography, a very big asset,” said the president. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko thus said that the coronavirus had not gone anywhere yet. “This is not this second wave, though, as they have to deal with in Europe now. God grant that it will be like it is today. It would be great to bring this disease down to the minimum, if not do away with it completely. We have plateaued at a low incidence rate, and the rate does not go very low. We understand why this is happening. But we can handle it. This is not the same problem as it was in March or April,” Lukashenko said. End </p>
