Lower chamber of parliament approves Golovchenko’s appointment as Belarus’ premier

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus has given their consent to Roman Golovchenko’s appointment as Prime Minister of Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> An official decision to this effect was made at a meeting on June 11, 2020, the press-service of the Belarusian government said in a release. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on June 4, 2020 changed the composition of the government, with Roman Golovchenko receiving the prime minister’s seat. Roman Golovchenko previously held the post of the chairman of the State Authority for Military Industry; in 2013-2018 he worked as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates - concurrently in the State of Qatar, Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Golovchenko also worked at the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Presidential Administration. In 1996 Golovchenko graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Affairs (MGIMO University) of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. </p> <p> </p> <p> Golovchenko told Belarusian MPs about the new government’s priorities, and invited them to participate in the preparation of the 2021-2025 development programme, as well as the 2021 forecast of socio-economic development. </p> <p> </p> <p> The premier had assured that the state is ready to fulfill all welfare commitments.
