Latvia slaps sanctions against another 118 Belarusian officials
<p> MINSK, Mar 25 - PrimePress. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs has decided to ban 118 citizens of the Republic of Belarus from entering Latvia indefinitely. The decision was coordinated with the Foreign Ministries of Estonia and Lithuania, the press-service of Latvia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The travel bans have been imposed on government officials and justice bodies, as well as regional administration. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The named officials are deemed have taken part in the violent repression of peaceful protests following the rigged presidential elections of 9 August 2020.” </p> <p> </p> <p> The new additions bring the total banned from entry to Latvia from Belarus to 277 persons. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Latvia does not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus and imposes sanctions on Belarusian officials over the violent crackdown on protests in the country.
