Large producers benefit from decline in Belarus’ export of potash fertilizers – Fitch

Strikes at Belaruskali OJSC (Soligorsk, Minsk Oblast) may lead to a reduction in the export of potash fertilizers from Belarus, and if they last long, spot prices would go up, which would be beneficial primarily for other large exporters, including Russian Uralkali, Fitch Ratings says. </p> <p> </p> <p> Four largest producers (Belaruskali, Canadadian Nutrien, Uralkali and American Mosaic) account for nearly two-thirds of total output. The share of Belaruskali in 2019 was about 20%. Fitch notes that the potash export is one of Belarus’ major sources of foreign exchange receipts. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to CRU commodity market analysts, the largest benefits may be derived by Russian Uralkali and Canadian exporters (Canpotex, which exports products of Nutrien and Mosaic). </p> <p> </p> <p> Massive protest actions began across Belarus on August 9, 2020 after the presidential election.
