Kunyavsky Business Association voices concern over violence against protesters

The Professor Kunyavsky Business Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers voices grave concern over the events of the past few days, which strongly affect the socioeconomic situation and increase external and internal business risks, reads the Association’s statement posted on its website. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Association says that workers are shocked by the disproportionate violence against peaceful protesters on August 9-12 and brutality during detentions and in detention centers. Employers have to reduce business hours and make efforts to find out the whereabouts of missing workers and members of their families, ensure their safety given the interrupted public transportation, and prevent detentions. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Association, due to the recent events, Belarus may be subject to economic sanctions, and its credit rating may be downgraded, which limits the opportunities to attract investments. A capital drain and emigration of highly intellectual and professional personnel and young people are also among the possible risks. </p> <p> </p> <p> In this situation, the Association demands that the crackdown on the population is stopped, those detained for participating in peaceful rallies are released, the excessive use of force is investigated, those responsible are brought to justice, and dialogue is initiated to stabilize the country and restore public confidence.
