Škoda dealerships suspend car sales in Belarus

Škoda's official dealers in the Republic of Belarus have temporarily suspended sales of any new cars since May 5, 2021, according to the press service of FelOct-Service, the official Škoda distributor in Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> However, the company added that the sale of spare parts and accessories, as well as after-sales service of Škoda cars, including warranty obligations, continues in full at all official dealerships in Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Due to the fact that on May 5, 2021 the Council of Ministers’s Regulation #240 of April 23, 2021 shall enter into force, pending clarification of the scope and mechanism of application of this regulation, all authorized dealers Škoda in the Republic of Belarus suspend the sale of any new Škoda cars. Our representatives will contact each client individually regarding the fulfillment of obligations under the contracts,” reads the statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Belarusian Automobile Association, official Škoda dealerships sold 3,682 Škoda cars in Belarus in 2020, which made Škoda the sixth largest car dealer among all automakers. The best-selling Škoda car on the Belarusian market last year was the compact liftback Rapid, with 2,069 thousand vehicles sold. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Government of Belarus banned import and sale of products manufactured by Liqui Moly, Škoda Auto and Beiersdorf (brands Nivea, Eucerin, La Prairie, Labello, Hansaplast, Florena, 8X4, Skin Stories, Gammon, Tesa, Chaul, Copperone, Hidrofugal, Stop The Water While Using Me) in Belarus. This decision was fixed with government resolution #240 of 23 April 2021. The resolution was adopted on the basis of President Lukashenko’s ordinance #128 of 30 March 2021 “On application of special measures”: a ban shall be imposed on imports into the territory of the Republic of Belarus and the sale of certain groups of goods (including goods of certain manufacturers), whose country of origin is the state and (or) the association of states, that have decided to introduce special measures against Belarusian legal entities and (or) individuals, or joined the special measures against the Belarusian legal entities and (or) individuals, adopted by other states and (or) their associations.
