IAEA’s OSART mission to visit BelNPP site in Oct 2021
<p> MINSK, Aug 2 - PrimePress. An Operational Safety Review Team (OSART) mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will operate at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP, Astravyets, Grodno Oblast) in October 2021, the Energy Ministry of Belarus said in a press-release. </p> <p> </p> <p> The report says the BelNPP in association with the IAEA hosted an expert mission on managing the configuration of the nuclear power plant project and evaluation, on introducing and monitoring changes in configurations of the project and licensing bases. The videoconference mission took place on 29-30 July within the framework of the international technical aid project meant to improve the operational safety of the nuclear power plant during commissioning and during operation. Specialists of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and IAEA experts discussed matters concerning the sharing of the best practices in the area of management of the nuclear power plant configuration. The best world practices in this field were reviewed. Recommendations and approaches of international organizations, including those of the International Atomic Energy Agency, were discussed. Goals and the system of administration, the procedure for organizing the work to manage the nuclear power plant configuration were also reviewed. </p> <p> </p> <p> The IAEA team included representatives of the USA, South Korea, and Finland with extensive experience in these fields. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ first nuclear power plant in Ostrovets (a town in the Grodno Oblast also referred to as Astravyets) will have two units with a combined capacity of up to 2,400 megawatts. The AES-2006 Russian standard design of (generation 3+) was chosen for its construction. Rosatom’s division Atomstroyexport acts as the general contractor for the NPP construction. The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant RUE is the project customer and the future operator of the NPP. The ceremony of the official launch of the NPP took place in early November 2020. The first power unit of the NPP was officially certified for industrial operation on June 10, 2021, the launch of the second power unit is due in H1 2022. End </p>
