Governments of Belarus, Russia to continue working on solution for harmonizing tax systems - Lukashenko
<p> MINSK, Mar 2 - PrimePress. The governments of Belarus and Russia will continue working out the mechanism for harmonizing the tax systems of the two countries. Alexander Lukashenko made a statement to this effect during a meeting on the Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the military sphere, Lukashenko’s press service said on March 2. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko said that during the talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on February 22, 2021, they discussed the roadmaps for deeper integration of the two countries. He said that most of them "can be signed right now," but there are some nuances in several areas of cooperation and they intend to finalize them. In particular, the sides have long been discussing the possible convergence of the tax systems. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lukashenko explained that this topic will be discussed again at the level of experts. "Putin tells me: ‘I'm ready to send you Mishustin (Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin – editor’s note). Your government, our government, the tax authorities will sit down and report to you the essence of the proposals of the Russian Federation after we have worked for a month or so.’ I agreed. Please, they will come, we will sit down, we will look at the Russian innovations together. If they are genuine innovations, if they are for the benefit of Belarus, we will accept them. As Putin said, if it is not suitable, we will not work in any direction. His proposal was: let us do what we can accept today. What is wrong with that? I don't see anything wrong with it," he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in the first half of 2020, the Ministry of Taxes and Levies of Belarus opposed the transition to a single digital tax platform with Russia. However, after a meeting with Mishustin in autumn 2020, Lukashenko suggested that Minister of Taxes and Levies Sergey Nalivaiko "should take a closer look" at the issue of switching to a single tax digital platform with the Russian Federation.
