Gas transportation tariffs in EEU common market should not be over those in domestic markets – vice premier
<p> MINSK, Jan 5 - PrimePress. Tariffs for gas transportation in the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) should not exceed similar tariffs in the domestic markets, says Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Belarus does not insist on a single gas transportation tariff for all member states, or the state regulation of the tariffs if this is not stipulated by national laws. We just want the regulators and monopolists of the member states to comply with the fair competition principle,” Petrishenko told Respublika daily. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The gas producing countries stipulate that regulation of prices and tariffs in domestic markets is carried out by their antimonopoly authorities, and the export prices and tariffs is the jurisdiction of the gas transmission system. This raises the most important question that directly concerns the building of an effective common gas market with equal conditions for all: will the prices and gas transportation tariffs be different for gas supplies to the common EEU market and for domestic consumers? As we have stated more than once, setting of gas transportation tariffs by the owners of the gas transmission system results in the three times higher price for Belarusian consumers than the price for consumers in the Smolensk Region of the Russian Federation,” said Petrishenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in May 2020, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council approved the Eurasian economic integration strategy for the period to 2025. Armenia and Belarus rejected the gas tariff calculation formula. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in this regard that a common gas tariff formula requires greater integration. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Eurasian Economic Union has been functioning since January 1, 2015. It unites Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and Russia. End </p>
